Save purchase and return conditions

Terms change quietly. The wording you read in October may not be the wording that applies in December, so the value of a condition record is not just the text — it is the text plus the date you read it.

What to save, and how

For each item, keep four short fields: the specification as stated (composition, dimensions, what is included), the purchase condition (price, currency, any stated restrictions), the cancellation or return wording, and the source link with the date. Copy the sentence, not your summary of it. A summary is an interpretation; the sentence is evidence.

Where the wording is long, keep the key sentence and a screenshot. Name the file with the date so a later version can be told apart from the earlier one.

Five questions to ask before ordering

  • Is the item in stock as shown, and how long is dispatch stated to take?
  • Does the stated price include the delivery service I selected?
  • Which address requirements apply for my destination?
  • Who pays return postage, and within what period must a return be started?
  • Are any items in this order restricted for the carrier or the destination?

Ask in writing where a written answer exists. A reply you can save is worth more than a phone call you remember differently.

Consumer rights, handled carefully

UK consumer law gives shoppers statutory protections, but the specifics depend on the seller, the item and the circumstances, and they can change. This guide does not restate them as rules, because a paraphrase is not a substitute for the current official guidance or the seller's own terms. Check the wording that applies to your order, note where you read it, and if a term looks unusual, ask before you pay rather than after.

Do not write a legal claim into your sheet. Write what the seller stated, with the date, and what you still need to confirm. That is what a record is for.

Keeping the record useful

Add a review date to any condition that matters to your budget. When you re-read the page, do not overwrite the old text — add a new dated entry, and mark the old one superseded. That way a change in terms is visible, which is precisely the thing a memory cannot show you.

Conditions belong next to the visual evidence in reading inspection photos and the discount rules in recording coupon conditions. Set a refresh rhythm using reviewing and updating your spreadsheet, then return to the hipobuy spreadsheet home page.
